Pros
Academic departments are supportive of new faculty hires. Job responsibilities are balanced between teaching and research. The institution is small enough that you will likely get to know the president and provost on a first name basis.
Cons
Some support units can be challenging to work with, although this has improved slightly in recent years. The secular decline in state support for higher education combined with changes in how universities receive that funding creates some uncertainty going forward.
