Pros

The hours are handy, once you've figured out lesson planning. Which takes years.

Cons

Hours and hours of unpaid lesson planning. Don't have a computer? Tough, go to an Internet cafe. They expect all lesson planning to be done off the clock, but still submitted by the deadline. And don't even think about calling in sick, lest you get an angry phone call from a higher-up out in Tokyo.

Pros

The distributed team is a mixture of talent and collaboration. Strong leadership, good team work, supportive staff, good pay. The work is challenging and rewarding.

Cons

It's a learning process. A lot of systems and processes seem new and the company is heading into unchartered waters, so there is a learning curve and friction in finding the optimal way forward.

Pros

- Hourly compensation - Good support network, good training - Friendly staff and management

Cons

- Offers very little full-time employment for non-Japanese (teaching staff) - Most teachers employed semi-illegally as "Outside contractors" - Management expects too much from part-time workers in terms of extra activities, availability and hours, which are not well compensated
