Pros

- The work you do has amazing, tangible impact all over the world. It's what keeps you going. You get to improve people's lives and you get to see it happen. - Depending on your line of work you might get to travel around the world and to places you would never go by yourself. - Multicultural environment with people from all over the world. - You get to work with some of the smartest people who are true experts in their fields.

Cons

- Terrible contracting and employment conditions. As an international organization IFC is not subject to any labor laws so there's abuse of consultants. This leads to anxiety for contract renewal (and visa status) and often abuse that cannot be reported because then the consultants lose their jobs. - Hiring is done through networking or you need to be a world renowned expert to even have a chance at the most basic of positions. - Middle management is selected through the ranks of the technical staff who are amazing at their technical work but don't have a clue how to manage people. Thus the crushing majority of managers are tragically horrible at managing and empowering people.
