Pros

The product will be pretty cool if they ever make it.

Cons

These people have never worked with an engineer before, they are academics or ex-sales. They hired me for direction and structure, since except for one person I had more technical experience than all of them put together. Then they got pissy and insulted when I told them the things that had to change. Eventually everyone ganged up on me and I left / was fired. They owed me substantial money at that point, almost $15k. I said I would return the much less valuable laptop, which had nothing of significance on it anyway, when I got paid. Lots for whining about "ransom" and legal threats followed and I blocked them. In the end I did send it the next day, before I got the money ( which hit my account a couple days later, but it does appear that they paid the day I left). However the package had to go ground and when it hadn't arrived in 7 days, a person in charge CALLED MY LOCAL POLICE TO FILE CHARGES. I think that says it all. Edit: Apparently it did not say it all. I was asked to reverify this review, and I am here to state directly that while the rest is certainly my perspective and they'll tell you what a jerk I am etc, the part about calling the police is 100% true. They would say that I was ignoring their emails, which is true, but our business was concluded and I didn't want to engage further. It was 7 days, including a weekend. I left on a Tuesday, I sent the laptop Wednesday afternoon, the police called me the following Wednesday morning, though only to say that it had happened and if they were going to file charges it would have to be in their location. I have proof and would say any of this in court. p.s. I just checked my contract. It just says that I have to return the equipment. There's no timeframe, and it doesn't say I have to answer their email.

Pros

- really smart people. CTO is insanely cracked, strong data science and innovation / analysis. CEO is a good seller & manager - no a-holes... in the valley, exceptional talent goes with large egos and but not here - very strong top of funnel - calibre of founders (two of the four founders are professors who are famous and run research labs out of Stanford/MIT) mean that there are very strong inbounds from F500 companies with good leads

Cons

- product and gtm/marketing is early which the company is aware of and actively recruiting accordingly

Pros

- Significant Learning Opportunities: Workhelix provides access to the latest AI tools for software development. As a Platform Engineer, I was learning and applying cutting-edge technology. - Impactful Work: I worked on a key data integration project, moving customer data for Workhelix's proprietary AI analysis, which felt meaningful and contributed to the company's mission. - Great Culture & Leadership: The company culture is fantastic. Communication is transparent, especially from leadership, with clear milestones and task prioritization. Management is approachable, genuinely listens to concerns, and provides excellent support and advice, particularly encouraging the use of new AI tools and guiding customer interactions. - Accomplished & Visionary Founders: Two of the founders are accomplished economists, bring invaluable experience and insight into daily operations and are excellent ambassadors for the company in important forums. This is a significant asset. - Good Work-Life Balance & Benefits: For a startup, the work-life balance was surprisingly good, and the benefits package was competitive. - Supportive Onboarding: The onboarding program, including a buddy system, was effective in getting me up to speed quickly. - Collaborative Team: Despite being a small engineering team with many working remotely (with options for in-office collaboration in SF), the teamwork and communication were strong.

Cons

Startup Environment - Requires Independence: As a startup, there's an expectation that you can work independently and navigate tasks with initiative. While there's a good onboarding buddy system, ongoing support might be less structured than in a larger corporation. This isn't a negative for everyone but something to be aware of.
