Pros

The work atmosphere is always down to earth and calm...at first, I couldn't believe it was so laid back. I had to pinch myself! It really helps that the company understands the level of stress that comes along with working in social services. The management has proven to be supportive, the work is always appreciated and I have never felt that my opinions don't matter. If you enjoy helping others or want to get some experience working in a community based program, this is a great place to work.

Cons

I've had a really hard time renting here in austin because I need to make 3xs the amount of rent. So that's been a bummer but I love working with this population so I'm willing to sacrifice for now.

Pros

-The office culture is steadily progressing across all departments. Senior management works hard to instill a person-first workplace. The culture on my team in particular was supportive, creative and energized. -Pay is pretty good for a nonprofit and there are opportunities to move up in most departments eventually or to a different department -From the CEO and COO to HR Director and QM, everyone was supportive and accessible no matter what level you were on. -The mission of my department meant a lot to me. I learned a lot in my role and was also given freedom to innovate. -The people working here are good people.

Cons

-The union can be a bit mysterious at times. It doesn't interfere with your day to day, but it was kind of a confusing presence on the back of my mind at times, perhaps due to communication/messaging issues. -You do clock in and out—some people are skeptical at first about that. It's really not a big deal once you get used to it and they are flexible as long as you communicate.
