Toxic Culture in Production - Anonymous employee Woodside Energy Employee Review

Pros

Wide range of opportunities in various area

Cons

The performance management system was too easily corrupted. A person could be given whatever rating the boss wanted and there were no independent appeal, requirements to have any evidence to back up the score or procedural fairness to how the decision was reached. Production in particular had a culture where dissenters or people who asked uncomfortable questions of management were considered “dangerous” and the HR system used against them. Promotions and job appointments lacked transparency with a preselected inner circle being marked for greatness as “rising stars” and given access to select roles as part of the “development plans”. Means you get very young managers who confuse their talents with their ambitions and for who failure is not a barrier to their next promotion. For the humble majority you get left in a role unless you find another one and are allowed to move.

Pros

Great company and people. Well paid and good benefits.

Cons

No cons from me. Sometimes time difference can be a challenge with Perth depending on the role you’re in.

Pros

The bonus is the only reason to work here

Cons

Finance management is really bad, there are a few good gems, but the leadership fails to see past their own careers. Middle management loses their sense of respect for employees and follows the lead of upper management. They say one thing, but mean something else. Everything is great until performance reviews and suddenly you were the worst employee ever so they can justify ratings and rankings - unsupported accusations.
