Pros

You make friends for life. Cool parties and you move office a lot and since everyone enjoys travel a lot a change of office sceneries is fun. You can decorate yourself.

Cons

Think twice before starting a Withlocals job unless your of temp nature flexible to saying yes always (warnings and redundancy threats to those who share opinions beyond Withlocals liking) or stuck in holland as a foreign kid like 99% of everyone working here. It’s not a mature company in behavior. The way employees are treated is like a primark trouser because not a ton of investment needed. don’t like it? toss it like your last years fad. We see it happen in front of our eyes! Withlocals terrifies employees securuty. There’s an exception to people who please and run at all costs those favorable or already friends to management can easily without experience jump to the top. Withlocals sees it as giving people a chance to grow any direction funnily it’s Withlocals way of cheaper labor not having to hire the real experienced person exception made for IT. Worst part it’s questionable how you’ll really function at another company where the right education is a must. Day to day tasks here are sometimes a walk in the park for some positions. It’s covered up cleverly to the outside world as everyone’s titled manager. I would never recommend withlocals as a place to build a serious career.

Hi there, I'm the first to say we can always do better at Withlocals, but I don't recognize this story at all. To me it feels like generalizing a very specific situation by making unsubstantiated claims. One of my personal goals is “employee happiness” and we invest a lot in talent development and training. There have definitely been cases where we lacked in terms of personal development and clear feedback about expectations and goals. I'm ultimately responsible to improve this for the entire team and at the same time it's also my responsibility to restructure a team if things are not working out, both for the benefit of the employee and for Withlocals. I'm always open to a follow-up conversation. It's a small world and I believe it's always better to say goodbye in a positive way, even if we go in a different direction.

Cons: ❌ Low pay for interns – The compensation does not reflect the workload or responsibilities given. ❌ High expectations, but little support – Interns are often expected to perform like full-time employees without proper guidance. ❌ Limited career growth opportunities – There's little chance of securing a long-term position after the internship. ❌ Workload can be overwhelming – Interns may be given a lot of responsibility with minimal supervision or recognition.

Pros

Flexible schedules when working. Good exercise. Good way to meet fun and interesting people.

Cons

The company deducts a 33% commission from guides and also imposes an additional “service charge” on customers. This pricing structure has led to a decrease in the number of tours booked. Furthermore, the company delays payments to guides, typically taking 6-8 days after the tour to process them. Despite collecting full payment at the time of booking, the company holds onto the funds, potentially earning interest during this period.

I also understand not everything is great, based on your review. In case you are still active, please know you can always reach out via our community platform. I'd like to respond to your advice to give some additional context. 1) Guides should be able to set cash as a payment option. This is something we will not implement. We're doing a lot of customer research and many travellers prefer to pay digitally for their experience, just like they book a taxi with Uber. Tips can still be cash, that's very common and totally fine. 2) Reevaluate Commission Rates We carefully evaluate commission rates every year. The last time we made a change, we have also made sure that the payout to hosts would not be impacted. This commission rate goes a really long way, in terms of marketing campaigns to attract customers, building new functionality on the platform, adding new cities and proving support to hosts. 3) Transparent Pricing The service charge helps to run Withlocals and goes towards payment fees, cancellations and customer support. We've tested different solutions and settled on the current version. 4) Faster Payments to Guides Paying out to hosts all over the world is not an easy task. We're using different platforms to make this happen. We are not running a secret hedge fund to do something else with your money.
