Pros

The people who work(ed) here are great. The mission is good, and it's great to hear stories of students' experiences.

Cons

The culture is so toxic. I tell stories to friends and family about how staff are treated, and they can't believe how rude, unprofessional and genuinely mean the founder has been to staff. The organization is now shut down for the year, because they can't maintain staff at all. The founder also is now responding to other reviews with incorrect and untrue comments -- and some negative reviews have been removed and other "fake" positive reviews added. At this point, it's actually just sad.

Pros

With a new CEO came a fresh approach to how the organization is run and executes on its mission. It is amazing to be part of a small and mighty team that is recreating how we actually make enrichment opportunities possible for our students. The culture is thoughtful, strategic, industrious, and lively. The channels of communication are open and cross-functional collaboration is strong. The organization is well-equipped to expand and each step taken to get us there under current management has been thoughtful. With a lean team, I find myself in the room discussing topics that I would normally not be privy to and have already found that it has enriched my career. I also have a customized professional development plan and full support from management to pursue the learning opportunities that will benefit me and my role - something I found lacking at other organizations of this size. Every employee is dedicated to the students we serve and playing an impactful role in closing the equity gap in education. My specific role does not work directly with students or teachers, but the impact this experience has on their lives comes through in the work every day very clearly, which is pretty incredible. Very fulfilling.

Cons

Nonprofit organizations require employees to practice creative problem solving, flexibility, and dedication to the cause to make an impact. This is not a job where you tick items of a checklist, so if you seek consistency and mandates, this won't be the place for you. I'm sorry to have seen the previous negative reviews. In reading them, it's hard to imagine that it bounced back, but it did!
