They Will Suck You Dry While Playing You Against One Another - Staff Writer Willamette Week Employee Review

Pros

In spite of the increasingly salacious covers and generally vacuous reporting, the paper still has some cachet with local and state government elected officials and their staff

Cons

The editorial side is a snake pit. The Executive Editor is notorious for editing and re-editing stories that even he forgets he's asked you to put in content that he deleted in previous versions. He is notorious for playing staff members against one another. He also excels at dissembling-- promising you the cover story that week, and whipping you into a frenzy--and you later find out he's done the exact same thing to the rest of your colleagues. Also, he once was a crackerjack reporter, but he's a pretty horrific editor. He does have lots of practice in: driving away those who possess skills he lacks. Oh, and the pay? Some of the lowest you'll encounter for the volume of reporting and writing you have to produce.
