Pros

Working at Whiteshield as a Policy Advisor was a great experience. The company has a strong presence across the Middle East, with a diverse and collaborative team. People are open to sharing knowledge, leadership is accessible, and there’s a mix of backgrounds that adds to the quality of work. One thing I appreciated was the openness to new ideas. When I proposed a new policy area to be added to the portfolio, leadership was supportive and provided the resources to develop it. I was able to launch it at the global scale which was a valuable learning experience. Beyond client work, the company encourages internal projects and grassroots initiatives. There are opportunities to join firm-wide knowledge-sharing efforts, contribute to internal research, or participate in clubs focused on professional development and social impact. These initiatives help create a sense of community and give people a chance to shape the firm’s culture in a meaningful way. Client work is dynamic and meaningful, offering exposure to important policy challenges. Overall, it’s a solid place for anyone looking to grow in public policy advisory while working in a supportive environment.

Cons

nothing really, typical industry-level downsides one should consider when joining consulting, nothing firm-specific

Pros

-Friendly, international atmosphere with a young team -Partners are approachable and nice -Nice office space and competitive salary -Flexible approach to remote work -Exposure to high-level public sector clients, with junior staff given real visibility and responsibility

Cons

-Despite the firm branding itself as uniquely academic, most "policy advisory" work relies on superficial data and information and prioritizes optics over substance, as is typical in the consulting industry. Not stimulating for those genuinely interested in public policy or looking to build technical, transferable skills -Management rarely pushes back on unrealistic client demands or defends project staff, leading to frequent scope creep, overwork, and growing frustration -Feedback and promotion structures are vague and highly subjective, with overwork, micromanagement, and deference often regarded favorably. Project leads are often too stretched to properly guide, monitor, and review junior staff -Staff with specialized skills (e.g., digital, language, regional expertise) are given additional work to do with no further recognition -Attempts to rapidly grow has negatively impacted the firm’s close-knit culture and led to very overworked and understaffed project teams

Pros

Very smart people, strong exposure to senior clients, and significantly more responsibility than you would typically get at the same level in larger firms. The company has grown quite rapidly over a relatively short period, with some organizational adjustments happening after institutional investors joined. The shift toward AI-enabled advisory is genuine and is already influencing the way projects are delivered. Leadership is ambitious and generally transparent about the company’s direction and long-term vision.

Cons

There are still some growing pains when it comes to role clarity and internal processes. Internal communication can sometimes be improved, especially across teams. Workload can also become quite intense during peak delivery periods
