Pros

The only saving grace is the people employed by the company. It manages to attract a wonderful mix of interesting, talented, intelligent individuals with whom lasting friendships can be established. There is a great sense of camaraderie amongst employees, as the senior staff are awful and their management style so deplorable, it engenders a 'them against us' mentality.

Cons

I was misled about the nature of the work I would be doing, the forum with which I would be involved and the opportunity for creative input. Employees are placed under a lot of pressure to churn out conferences rehashing the same policy issues, with strict limitations on format. The work is therefore generally mind-numbingly repetitive. When not bored or under pressure, employees are subjected to ridiculous levels of micro-management. Middle management are inept or over-bearing (in some cases both) and in position primarily due to their obsequious devotion to the bosses. Senior management run the company with Stalinist paranoia and control, and a hectoring, domineering approach which is counter-productive and for some, spirit-breaking. WFP has a toxic atmosphere and a complete inability to recognise and utilise the diverse range of experienced, capable and enthusiastic individuals the company manages to lure in. There are very good reasons why it invariably has numerous vacancies and is always recruiting.

Pros

I actually quite enjoyed my time working here on the whole. Other reviews have articulated this much better than I can, however remote working is great. Colleagues are also lovely and there is a good camaraderie with staff. My line manager and HR department were also great and very understanding, which was really appreciated. The work is generally interesting, and as others outline no two days are the same. Great experience of working with policy and events as well, so felt like I gained a lot of experience. There is also quite a bit of room for progression in terms of pay which makes up for being on what feels like such a low wage to start.

Cons

IT was pretty slow and frustrating to use. Sometimes the server would just crash and there would be no way to carry on with work until the issue was fixed. Monthly meetings did bring a lot of anxiety, despite being a good time to meet with colleagues and get some focused work done. You also had to pay for your own transport which felt a bit unfair at times. Pay also starts very low if you're a new grad for the level of work you need to complete and the responsibility you have.
