A laughable approach to professionalism - Researcher Westminster Forum Projects Employee Review

Pros

- A good stepping stone into the sector in which your forum operates - The new Bracknell town centre is surprisingly good so lunchtimes are pleasant respites from your day and there are some decent options for meals out when it comes to your leaving do. - Shared antipathy for management creates strong bonds between colleagues in already sociable atmosphere. On top of this there’s a huge selection of great stories - relating to members of the management team - passed down over the years for you to enjoy and ensure their longevity. - It turns out you can find friends for life.

Cons

- Regular firings and middle managers’ tangible fear of senior management create the toxic background upon which you then add the often-hostile and reliably-uncomfortable atmosphere of weekly editorial meetings. For up to 3 hours of these meetings you will desperately battle both eye contact and laughter or, alternatively, daydream creative ways you could hand in your notice, all whilst management do everything they can to make you feel like a petulant child for not aggressively chasing someone in the real world to speak at one of the events you’re overseeing. - - The work is intellectually challenging around only 10% of the time, tops. - There is a sad old-fashioned and damaging air of male superiority that runs through the heart of the organisation. Sexism and favouritism abound.

Pros

I actually quite enjoyed my time working here on the whole. Other reviews have articulated this much better than I can, however remote working is great. Colleagues are also lovely and there is a good camaraderie with staff. My line manager and HR department were also great and very understanding, which was really appreciated. The work is generally interesting, and as others outline no two days are the same. Great experience of working with policy and events as well, so felt like I gained a lot of experience. There is also quite a bit of room for progression in terms of pay which makes up for being on what feels like such a low wage to start.

Cons

IT was pretty slow and frustrating to use. Sometimes the server would just crash and there would be no way to carry on with work until the issue was fixed. Monthly meetings did bring a lot of anxiety, despite being a good time to meet with colleagues and get some focused work done. You also had to pay for your own transport which felt a bit unfair at times. Pay also starts very low if you're a new grad for the level of work you need to complete and the responsibility you have.
