Pros
I worked as a part-timer for over a year with Weis, and Giant Markets for two years before the buyout. So long as performance was satisfactory, the raises came in time, though less frequently and to a smaller extent to competitors in the area. Still, I was offered an assistant managerial position, which I turned down as I was almost finished with college. So long as you are punctual and satisfied with following orders exactly, they are flexible and receptive when it comes to scheduling. Weekly paycheck, it works as a college student, and I hear these days there is an employee discount.
Cons
Management never seems to have its head on their shoulders, I hear conflicting ideas from the various levels, and they rarely listen to veteran employees. They tried to push products that current employees knew wouldn't sell. Giant was never sunshine and rainbows, but it began to feel heartless. Par for the course with larger chains you might say, but if you want to work in a grocery store, there are better places to try first. I've shopped there many times since leaving, and while the store looks nice, employees do not.
