Pros

There are some hard working people working for Wayside. The team is great and somewhat united. There are nice staff meetings every month, with cake, and when something good happens there's pizza!! It's an established business, although volatile.

Cons

Management lacks strategy and direction, as things are going digital. There is no performance incentive program, or a team culture. Most people work hard, but do so in a reactive manner, which doesn't give time to slow down and think of what's important to an employee. Within a month, almost half-a-dozen people left the company, some to go onto bigger and better opportunities, others frustrated with management. In terms of departments, the press side is well established, but the cross media department is unappreciated and lacks direction.

Pros

- Employees are considered members of an extended family. - Accessible management and regular updates on company performance/prospect information. - Work-life balance flexibility, including telecommuting if job responsibilities allow. - Emphasis on customer service and producing quality products. - High pride in workmanship throughout. - Casual work environment. - Professional development opportunities. - Cultural fit is a primary criteria in hiring decisions. Most people who stay for a year, end up staying for many more, often decades.

Cons

- Pay for some positions could be better, but benefits are decent, and management is in the process of reviewing and adjusting pay scales in response to a comprehensive employee survey. - Change is slow here. Very slow.
