Pros
You mostly get the same benefits as Google employees, although a little reduced in some ways. Waymo is trying to distance itself from Google, so I only see these benefits getting reduced further if not eliminated in the future.
Cons
- Weak and uninspiring leadership at all levels. - Your experience can vary quite a bit depending on which team you are on. - The company seems to care more about ERGs and DEI (EID in Waymo speak) than building an actual self-driving vehicle. - Internal systems are messy and disorganized. - Inconsistencies in management, communication, and internal tool use from team-to-team. Waymo can't even get everyone too use the acronym ADV (Autonomous Driving Vehicle) over SDV (Self Driving Vehicle) even after committing itself to stop using the SDV nomenclature years ago. - Very difficult to move around internally. - Poor work/life balance. This has consistently been a complaint for years.
