Pros

I've worked for WayUp for over a year, and I actually have the unique experience of being a boomerang employee. I was here in the earlier days around the Series A and then left for a different opportunity that I ultimately regretted, so when the CEO asked me to come back a year later, I agreed immediately. It was astonishing to see how much has changed (for the better) in the time that I was gone. I think a lot of people come to startups because they think it seems fun and cool and they don't really know what they're getting themselves into. Or on a less cynical note, I think a few past employees were attracted to our mission and culture, but ultimately were not the right hires for their roles, and that is on HR and the Exec team to prevent from happening anymore (which they are getting better at). It is sink or swim here. It's okay if you don't know what you're doing all the time, half of us don't, but people that have been successful here put in the effort to grow, learn, figure it out, and properly communicate when they need help. Working for WayUp requires a level of maturity, confidence and self awareness that can be challenging at times. However, I never have grown so much as a person or in my career anywhere else more than I have working here. If you like to take on a lot of responsibilities, be challenged, never be bored, and can handle constructive feedback, then you'll love it here.

Cons

The turnover. We have made some bad hires, but we've also lost some good people, and I think it's mostly due to lack of leadership. JJ and Liz try their best, but they can't be everywhere and I think that some of the more junior people here miss having guidance or a mentor. However, the top priority for the hiring team has been to hire team leaders and managers for the last 6 months, so it has been getting better, people just need to be patient. I very much approve of our recent C-Level hire, which proves to me that we are taking the time to find the right leadership here.

Pros

- Company is focused on growth: not just its own metrics, but its employees'. I know a few people who took classes which WayUp paid for; and everyone loves the Lunch and Learns and the weekly all hands (where people show/teach each other what we're working on) etc.... - Everyone here keeps saying this, but again, the people are the best; the smartest employee group I've ever encountered - CEO is inspiring and so smart, and self-aware of what she does and doesnt know (she's young but seems to have lots of mentorship); she works way too much though so hopefully the VPs they're hiring will take things off her plate - Mission is great - I've never felt micromanaged in my job. I think the only people who get micromanaged are the people who aren't right for their job, and they tend to not be around long - Company moves so fast

Cons

- Liz and JJ are currently hiring their Senior Management team, which we all are excited for. Based on the first hire of the three, I'm optimistic about the other two. But in the meantime, the company has gotten to where it is today through mid-level leaders who were learning on the job. This has been a growing pain for everyone at the company, which I think everyone is excited to get past - There were a lot of really bad hiring mistakes made in 2016 that resulted in some not-great people joining (most of them are now gone) and seemingly leaving bad glassdoor reviews lol
