Pros

I was given a pretty standard (not great) basic salary however I always thought the commission was pretty good, I always felt I was paid fairly for the work I did. Commission framework perhaps isn’t as favourable as other sales roles, however the job itself is incredibly easy so I feel it makes up for that. Sales Manager is by far the best manager I’ve had, very genuine guy who always had my best interests at heart and wouldn’t ask anything of me that wasn’t directly in my benefit. I worked with some really good people, in sales you’ll be working closely with pricing and contract support who are all great people with some great banter. The hours are pretty good with no weekends and an early finish every week. Annual leave is on par or even slightly better than other sales roles out there.

Cons

My wages were good because I was on commission, if you’re working elsewhere in the business you can expect a pretty poor payslip each month. Although my manager was fantastic, a common problem in other areas of Water Plus is that management don’t seem to care about their staff and only really seem interested in furthering their own careers by kissing up to senior leadership. The new CEO has a very clear idea of where he wants the business to go which is fantastic, however I fear what he is asking of staff to meet these goals doesn’t marry up to the poor wages that people are getting. Water Plus has always been really bad at retaining talent, their approach tends to be hiring 2 to replace 1 as opposed to making an effort to keep someone who is good at their jobs. Apprenticeships are available, however they are only available to relevant departments e.g being in sales I could not get an IT apprenticeship if I was looking to change roles, which adds on to preferring to lose talent than retain them.

Pros

Supportive colleagues and strong teamwork, competitive salary and benefits compared with similar regional employers, clear direction from a supportive and commercially focused CEO, opportunities to progress if you show commitment, training and ongoing support available for those who engage, good job security in a stable business, positive focus on customer service and improving processes

Cons

Fast pace of change may not suit everyone, progression depends on consistent performance and isn’t automatic, some teams experience pressure during busy periods, role expectations can be high, not ideal for those wanting minimal accountability or expecting rewards without contribution
