Pros
- Global development environment: the Sydney office works internationally with all the other development studios within WG. Opportunity for travel to interesting places. Opportunity for improving soft skills is especially useful. - Interesting/challenging technical work and problems to solve. - One of very few game (technology) development companies in Australia. Work we do impacts many millions of players around the world. - Sydney office stays pretty cutting edge in terms of ideas, technology, hardware, processes, and tools. - Lots of smart and experienced collegues to learn from, within Sydney and other studios. - Management in Sydney tends to put a lot of effort into retaining and supporting staff as much as possible (e.g. with work/life balance issues).
Cons
- While working in an international company is exciting, there are logistical challenges (especially in Sydney being so far away from the rest of the world), e.g. sometimes requiring spending odd hours communicating. There can also be challenges/misunderstandings due to language and cultural barriers. - The company as a whole can somtimes feel slow to react to industry changes, though this is improving. - Teething problems still left from period of very rapid growth as a company as a whole.
