Easy to apply, difficult to get work - Dog Walker Wag! Employee Review

Pros

Application process took a few weeks, but was painless and easy. The app is pretty easy to use, and orientation/training videos are very thorough.

Cons

Even if you open your app immediately upon getting a notification, the walks are already booked. Makes it really difficult to find work... they hold multiple orientations a week with almost 20 new employees each time (I don't think they turn away anyone), so it makes sense that the market is oversaturated with providers. Of course, Wag! doesn't care about this because you pay them for your paperwork and background checks.

Pros

The pro of using Wag is that you get a couple dollars to keep your body moving.

Cons

Sometimes it can prove difficult to manage your own time with variabilities on these walks. In an apartment complex? +10 min to find it. Stomach wrapped harness and a nervous dog? +15 min to soothe the dog to they'll let you put it on. Excited dog home-alone without even a collar?? +15 minutes attempting different strategies to get close enough to put on the harness. Owners do not always provide poop bags. The app could be better - there are several alerts and reminders that are needlessly repetitive when you use it regularly. You have to click through the same 5 reminders before every walk to get the access information. I understand it was designed for safety, but it just adds minutes (one at a time) to your day for no reason. There doesn't seem to be any lock-screen widget for the app, so you have to unlock your phone every time you need to log a pee, poo, or check how much time is left on the walk. Wag a big chunk of the earnings. I believe it's about 40%, which is a LOT. An actor's agent only gets 20%.
