Pros

This concerns to the Unit manager position. Great earning potential at the management level (45000-60000 or more). A lot of promotion opportunities with big pay increases (30% to 60% pay increase). Private stock options for retirement (stock price increase for the last 10 years). 24 days pay vacations. Set schedule with mostly morning work (6 work days two days off). Control of the unit in almost every aspect of the business giving a sensation of ownership of the restaurant. Resources to solve issues and accomplish goals (corporate office, upper management, manuals, etc). Financial debt free company.

Cons

Unit managers work all holidays and have blackout days that could affect the days off (December has about 5 to 6 blackout days that ca cause 7 work day week with only one day off). Unit managers are always on call besides their days off (24/7). The manager in duty is responsible of keeping the restaurant running, if he can not cover the shift, he will need to work it (that include overnights). As pretty much the unit manager is the owner of the restaurant he or she has a lot of responsibilities (payroll, disciplinary actions, inventory, production, training, computer work, etc) that can put a lot of pressure in the unit manager as the only manager of the restaurant in his work days. Leading people is not easy and running a 24/7 business require a lot of responsible associates to be able to have a balance between life and work (working all day and covering shift will discourage any management member including complaints from associates and customers). It is the people business so it comes with a lot of stress. However, if the unit manager put a lot of effort in keeping a good restaurant, it will pay off taking most of these stress away. It is up to the unit manager how it is going to be.

Pros

Solid pay for the industry Okay benefits Employee stock purchase plan Pretty consistent hours The actual work is difficult, but fun after you get good at it. Upward momentum is difficult, but the pay scales very well if you work your way up into management. Prepare for intense work if you do though.

Cons

They hire everyone, and your team will make or break your experience. Genuine safety concerns on 3rd shift. You need to be prepared for people to act out. Senior management only have operation management skills. They are not good "people" managers at all. Only "number" managers.
