Pros
Nothing anymore, any “pro” was stripped come end of 2024. The only thing that kept me there for so long was my extremely supportive manager (who received no support from their own line-manager), and the couple of colleagues left in my team. I don’t know who was still getting free sweet treats or pizza as other fairly recent reviews say, because neither have happened for well over a year.
Cons
The company has frozen recruitment, leaving already understaffed teams carrying the workload of multiple roles with no extra pay, no recognition, and no regard for wellbeing. Many staff, including myself, worked unpaid hours just to stay afloat, and when this was raised with SLT, it was met with nothing more than “we’ll review workloads.” No compensation, no support. Senior leadership routinely ignore concerns about workload, mental health, and the need for proper staffing. Under-performers are kept on while hardworking, reliable staff receive no meaningful recognition - just a 2.5% pay rise across the board. Progression is nonexistent unless you change departments entirely, and pay is so low that hiring quality staff was difficult even before the recruitment freeze. SLT have openly complained about the minimum wage increase, which says everything about how poorly staff are paid. These comments were often followed by tone-deaf remarks about “how much richer the company is,” showing a complete disconnect between leadership and the people running the business. Since the Mitie takeover, staff confidence has collapsed. There is no transparency, no stability, and no indication things will improve. Planning teams are pushed to deliver unrealistic results with no regard for labour availability or health and safety, and disrespect from certain engineers, operations managers and account managers only adds to the pressure. Overall, nothing about this job is rewarding. Most days you leave feeling deflated and overwhelmed, not valued or proud of your work.
