Could be amazing but doesn’t learn from failures - Senior Producer WABE Employee Review

Pros

Some of the kindest people you’ll ever want to meet. Fellow employees want to help you succeed. Positive brand association in public. Sometimes HR/management surprises us with a kind gesture (day off for voting recently, a “drive thru” holiday lunch because of COVID)

Cons

That gross building. Low pay and ungodly expensive health insurance—if you’ve got a spouse or a family, better have Obamacare on speed dial. Big promises/talk, small action/results. Innovation is a four-letter word. Shocking how possible it is to fail up there. No matter how much or little is in the bank, there’s *NEVER* any money for it. ESPECIALLY after a wildly successful pledge drive where we make 30-40% over our goal. These clowns wrote the BOOK on cutting corners. No matter what’s the question, “No” is the answer. Sometimes advancement feels like a game of Bingo! Weird fetish for hiring managers with zero public media experience—luckily there are some amazing people in every department who keep the place afloat despite that fact.

Pros

People here are genuinely supportive and always willing to jump in and help when needed. Management is mostly transparent, which helps build trust. The work you do feels meaningful—it's more than just a paycheck; it has a real, positive impact on the community. Creativity is encouraged, and management does a great job of fostering and rewarding new ideas.

Cons

It's nonprofit so budgets are often front and center.

Pros

Are there any? I struggle to think of any pros from my time there. Maybe the other people outside of leadership.

Cons

Terrible management and budget decisions.
