Pros

Office space, free things, all that jazz. Name recognition of the company.

Cons

This may seem highly editorial -- of course, it is -- but I did want to leave my feedback in case it could help somebody similar to me make a decision here. - Young people. If you're over 35-40 you stick out like a sore thumb, honestly. (Coming from a then-23-year-old.) Even at the executive level. That may be par for the course in digital media, but to me it's nearly ageism and sometimes it just felt downright silly working there. - Profitability. When I left, I think Vox Media *just* stopped losing money as a business. It's backed by hundreds of millions in funding, but it's not inspiring to work for a company running on borrowed cash. - Content. I didn't fully form these opinions before joining up, which is my mistake. Ultimately, I find Vox, the news site, a nearly toxic player in media -- as self-proclaimed "fair and balanced" as Fox News but just as biased. Verge provides unstimulating tech coverage with a clear fetish for Apple products. Polygon is often the butt of video game journalism jokes. And so forth. Acquiring Recode was the best thing Vox did for its reputation in journalism. The important takeaway there is to be sure that you enjoy the content they produce, so at least you'll have that to fall back on if your enjoyment in the people, the work, the industry, or whatever else begins to flag. Obviously, the content is also a good indication of the people who are attracted to the company - Leadership. At a mature company, processes might bend when the wind blows - like the departure of a team member, change in business priorities, etc. Here, most of them broke, and were rebuilt by folks who didn't understand the people, the day-to-day, etc. Even more senior leaders who could have provided support throughout that process appeared not to, which resulted in a lot of distress in the org. - Egos. There are always some kind people, but young folks with big personalities in senior roles and high compensation is not a great combination. And it can feel like a frat/sorority environment at times. Anyway, I had a negative experience here, but I'm leaving my review neutral to be mindful that the company may never have been a good fit to begin with. Good luck to you!

Pros

Great colleagues, good workload. I feel valued and motivated.

Cons

Sometimes it feels like we don't have much insight into how the company is doing financially, which can be worrisome.

Pros

Was a great place to be early on. There were some good times among colleagues, and the work felt rewarding at some points. Made some good friends during my time there.

Cons

Looking back, morale started to decline in 2018, with recurring layoffs and constant uncertainty becoming the norm. Employees are expected to maintain a high workload with little opportunity for advancement. Promotions and hiring often seem driven by politics and favoritism rather than performance. It's disappointing to see the direction of a company I once believed in.
