Pros

Bottom end Benefits Parking is never a struggle

Cons

Manager is illiterate, halfway incompetent, rude to the customers almost always, doesnt give the hours that are needed, uses favoritism based on RACE, cherry picks flaws in work in order to make a certain person look bad and the other employees good, refuses to work on holidays and takes up to 4 days out of the entire week off, and makes it up with adding extra hours to their shifts on working days, singles out employees (specifically newer ones) in order to bring their developing work habits into light as a mediocrity, abuses power, mistreats workers in front of customers, uses requested days off as leverage for a certain employee to take up a shift of hers (applies primarily towards major holidays such as Christmas) and leaves on her own time. Couldnt withstand employment at this company for this very reason. Clerks are only helpful to the employees that they favor, or else not helpful at all (applies toward customers as well). I have paged a clerk for assistance a total of 9 times, and only once, have i ever been assisted. Notice that customers are standing in aisles seeking help and only till they have complained to the customer service desks after up to half an hour of waiting, and raising the entire store managers awareness, are they given any sort of help, and singled out to look like fools for complaining in the first place. When clerks actually do "decide" to help, they are often rude, not empathetic, nor do they care about the quality of the product, or their assistance. Store Manager is only polite to who he favors. So far, only 15+ year frequenters of the store have received any sort of genuine assistance from him, and that assistance also includes the starbucks kiosk inside the store. On more than one occasion, was i requested to hand off a free drink, simply because a certain person was a customer for more than 10 years, and they would post a poor review and complain to the higher ups of any mishaps in our handiwork. He completely disregards any of the other customers that come every single day, and always order their drink with absolute politeness, and if they have any issues, always bring it to light with the manager or employee with the most integrity and honesty. Store Manager is ONLY polite to who he favors. Sometimes, it seems to be merely about handiwork, but on more than one occasion, can it be clear that he does not look at the mere quality, but instead, ethnicity. Many minorities work at this certain location,California, and it seems the store manager never attends to the needs of the many that work there, but rather, he goes out of his way to even storm up conversations that carry into the better part of the hour with ones he sees as more favorable (if you see what i am getting at). Overall, this is not a favorable work environment unless you are a high school student looking to put some cash in your pocket. Being a barista in a grocery store is torment from your superiors and disgruntled customers alike, and the same goes for a courtesy clerk. Neither of these jobs command the slightest amount of respect from your coworkers or customers, and most certainly not your managers. Unless you are looking to dedicate 8+ years of your life to back breaking, time consuming, patience wearing work for minimum wage pay, in the slightest chance that you will actually ascend the ranks of a corporation chain, i suggest you take your searches elsewhere. P.S. If you want to work part time as a barista, work at an actual, corporate starbucks. Dont waste your time at a place that not only pays lower, demands that you continue exemplifying a positive attitude after a customer rudely curses you out, is completely unforgiving in its schedule and disregard for personal life, but also commands in its policy, that you may not accept tips.
