Toxic - Senior Mechanical Engineer Voith Employee Review

Toxic work environment, created by the Engineering and Quality manager being inexperienced within the industry and as a manager working within a large global company. Essentially the engineering department he has created is a “boys club” with only those who deem to be worthy given support, his ear and the ability to do their job. Those who don’t unfortunately will be bullied and ridiculed behind their backs, even to the extent that one engineer had to go long term sick due to the lack of compassion shown by the Engineering and Quality Manager. There is little to no organisation within the engineering team which means it is always in a state of chaos with no one really knowing what the priorities are. Its got so bad that the Engineering and Quality manager spends most of his time on the shop floor “on the tools” rather than actually managing the Engineering team. Communications between the Engineering department and others, such as Production and Project Management is extremely poor. This appears to be caused by a lack of trust between the heads of departments and everyone wanting to get things out the door as quickly as possible and not be the one holding things up. This means that mistakes are often made, shortcuts are often taken and Quality suffers as a result. No real Engineering takes place in the department either, everything is opinion based, finger in the air and literally drawn on a handkerchief. So no real Engineering qualifications are required for the department in its current form. At the moment all complex Engineering and Technical questions are deferred to Germany.
