Pros

Compensation is not the worst.

Cons

- This is a difficult company to navigate because of layers of history. The company had a successful past over 15 years ago, and it is still holding on to the possible good old days while trying to reinvent itself. - The company is basically owned and run by a couple (CEO and CTO) which is probably the source of most of the problems. Both are not good motivators or leaders. The CEO is not transparent and likes to play games. - For example, the company owns and conduct development with a large team of developers in China. This is done because of cost. However, the China company operates under a different name and there is no free transfer of knowledge or information between US and China. Strange. - Work culture is inconsistent. The new employees are expected to work from the office yet many older employees work from home. It operates as if there are 2 cultures and 2 companies.

Pros

Vitria Technology is a growing company with both, legacy and eye to the future. Part of Vitria's strength is in its core management staff as they are the foundation that anchored the company for the past couple decades. They have built a reputation as innovators, technology leaders and dedicated to customer satisfaction and loyalty. The rest of the company's fortitude comes from adaptation and reinvention combined new talent bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to the table. I can honestly say that, while it may not be the vocational playground made so popular during the dot coms, it has been a stable and growth-supportive company to work for for nearly a decade. Management is approachable, the atmosphere professional yet relaxed, and the people are committed to making things happen.

Cons

While Vitria is a generally good place to seek employment, it is not without its challenges. The company, despite its global scope, is relatively small, which means that people tend to wear multiple hats ( not necessarily a bad thing ) and, as with many small companies, it can be a little stressful . This is where one has to consider my chosen title for this review ( " You Get Back What You Put Into It " ). Vitria may not be a fit for everyone, but for those who do find a home there, it will tend to return proportionally to the levels of input you give.
