Pros

Great base salary for recruiters, perfect for those who are "self-managed" with an achievement mindset. The team likes to have fun and celebrate wins. Recruiters treat each other fairly and are willing to help when asked. Scot, the president, is very kind and caring.

Cons

Conflict of interest because of the relationship between CEO and operations/HR. Can't complain or disagree with management. Culture could be more collaborative. Training is not as good as claimed, sort of a sink-or-swim attitude toward recruiters once they get ramped up. If you are not doing well, the advice is "do better" but they don't tell you how. Most people don't stay at the company for more than 2-3 years so it tends to stay the same size.

Pros

If you are interested in getting into technical recruiting, VitalSource is a great place to look. They train you on everything you need to know and give you the tools to be successful.

Cons

Be ready for a very metrics-driven work environment. There are good and bad sides to that - transparency is great and you always know where you stand in the pack, but if you are not successful at hitting your goals on a weekly basis, it can be a stressful work environment. On the flip side, if you are successful and prove yourself, there are opportunities to make good money and move up in the business quickly.

Pros

I joined VitalSource from a different industry and I was a little nervous about it to begin with. I couldn’t have made a better decision and so happy I joined. The training is really great and while I was totally clueless in the beginning I’ve learned the basics and am seeing good results. Aside from the initial training we have leads who are always willing to help out and my manager is 100% available any time I need him. The workspace is great and there is no bureaucracy here. If I need something I ask for it and management responds. My manager works on the floor with us and it makes for a great way to be continually learning and getting better at the job. We have solid administrative support and have regular team lunches and gatherings to celebrate birthdays and such. Coworkers are great and it’s very much a team environment. I’ve heard agencies can be a backstabbing environment but I haven’t experienced that here, everyone is always willing to help each other out. I’m also able to set my own hours aside from a daily status meeting.

Cons

Sourcing candidates can be tedious but I was made well aware of this when I interviewed, they hammered it with me actually. I was expecting it to be a total grind but it gets easier the longer you do it.
