Growth was hampered by limited scope of investors in terms of funding capacity. Successful retail telecom service providers are usually large businesses with significant economies of scale. Visafone was efficient but infrastructurally deficient with little chance of survival as a standalone operation. Inevitably the company had to accept an acquisition to preserve its legacy in whatever form.
