Pros

I’ve been working with the design department for a year now. I really enjoy the projects I get to work and I’ve also enjoyed lots of creative freedom. Since this design company builds too, it’s a great place for designers to learn construction and detailing methods. I really appreciate having a construction team all under one roof, as it really helps me refine my designs to be on budget and easier for the builder to execute!

Cons

Can get very busy, but that is typical of most interior design / construction firms in Vancouver.

Pros

The projects were varied and fun. Great collaboration with co-workers and various teams. Also, some opportunities to work with some very fun clients.

Cons

Project timelines seem unrealistic (estimation of workload by management seems not quite accurate enough) which leads to employees not meeting milestones. Also the insufficient delivery of promised bonuses, or pay increases is very discouraging after years of service. Very high employee turnover rate (20+ people in 2 years) creates an atmosphere of fear - many staff wonder who will be next to be 'terminated'. Much time is wasted training staff if those same staff will not or do not (termination) stay with the company.

Pros

Recent management additions have almost completely changed the culture 180 for the better. Management rolls out new, surprising employee rewards almost monthly. Good pay and benefits and lots of training programs and support. Amazing designs and quality houses we can all take pride in saying we helped. Support personal development not just work improvement.

Cons

Sometimes just too much work not enough people. A few people are really slow. Too many City delays make things hurry up then wait. Owner can be perfectionistic and change designs a lot. Sometimes the clients are completely insane, spoiled egomaniacs that take no responsibility for the delays and problems they cause with their rude or problematic paranoid behaviour (failure to respond/approve, failure to pay).
