Pros

Vertex offers unlimited PTO, which can be a significant advantage for maintaining work-life balance. The 37.5-hour work week is also appealing, providing a slightly shorter work schedule than the industry standard.

Cons

If you're considering working at Vertex, it's important to know the dynamics of the workplace. The company culture is heavily influenced by long-tenured employees who have been there for 20+ years. While experience can be an asset, this often translates into a resistance to change and a lack of openness to innovative thinking. Opportunities for growth and career advancement are limited, as these long-term employees frequently move into senior and leadership roles, regardless of their qualifications or experience. This creates an environment where newer employees—those with less than five years at the company—struggle to make an impact or advance. Additionally, some teams, particularly those dominated by "old-timers," can foster toxic work environments. Unfortunately, HR seems unwilling to address these issues, making it even more challenging for employees to feel supported or valued. Overall, while Vertex may appeal to those who prefer traditional, unchanging work environments, it’s not the place for those who value growth, innovation, or a supportive and inclusive culture.

Pros

- Valuable to have a job in this market, and somewhere that historically pays a market rate - unlimited PTO for fulltime

Cons

- New CEO is something...concerning. Workforce reduction, replacing C-suite with former pals from previous companies, huge push on AI without the subsequent reassurance that our jobs won't be replaced. Seems like the goal is for all of us to train AI to do our jobs before getting let go. Really tone deaf when us little people have livlihoods on the line.
