Veltio is an excellent starting point for your career, for many reasons you can find bellow: 1. **Positive Work Environment:** Veltio provides a pleasant and welcoming work environment, which makes it an nice place to start your career. There is an open space office, which contributes to a positive and collaborative work atmosphere. Also there is free coffee, fruits and a small discount for buying lunch from a nearby restaurant. 2. **Friendly and Knowledgeable Colleagues:** The team at Veltio is not only smart and young but also exceptionally helpful. You'll find that most of your colleagues are willing to assist you as you navigate your role. Aldo there are some team-building activities that genuinely help build connections among its employees. 3. **Established Business Processes:** Veltio exists for about 20 years so it has established its operational processes. This provides employees with a structured and organized work environment. Of course there are exception to this but it is a fact that the company tries to keep things organized and to improve the existing processes according to new facts and needs. 4. **Business Domains and Global Exposure:** You're likely to find yourself working with interesting business domains such as Demand Forecasting and Supply Chain, which can be both challenging and rewarding. Most Veltio's clients are retailers based abroad. This offers an opportunity to gain global exposure and you may have an opportunity to participate in business trips (although this is a rare event lately) 5. **Diverse Role Involvement:** At Veltio, you'll find yourself engaged in almost every phase of software development, from the initial "Design" stage to the exciting "Go Live" moment. The startup-like atmosphere encourages everyone to contribute across various aspects of projects. This is particularly advantageous for newcomers to the tech industry as it provides a comprehensive understanding of Software Development projects' lifecycles. 6. **Work Flexibility:** Veltio offers a degree of flexibility in the work environment. It is nice to have the opportunity to work some days /periods remotely if you wish to or if there is a need.
Cons
1. **Office Equipment Insufficiencies:** The office equipment needs significant improvement. When you are hired, you are issued a laptop with a charger and a basic 10€ mouse, which can be described as inadequate at best. Unfortunately, desks are pretty much empty, lacking of essentials like keyboards and standard monitors. It's quite surprising that most of the employees have to purchase and bring their own equipment to the office to ensure comfortable and efficient work. The only thing provided is literally the chair! 2. **Compensation and Benefits:** The current salary offerings at Veltio may not align with the industry standards, especially since there are many new tech companies in town with better salary packages. Unfortunately, the company's benefit package is limited. Aside from a prepaid card for the supermarket (with a small amount of money per month), which becomes available only after one year of employment, there are no additional benefits or perks provided to employees. There is also a private health insurance available after two years of employment but which in some cases is delayed even more. 3. **Work-Life Balance and Overtime:** Veltio is usually understaffed so there is a frequent need for overtime work. Work-life balance can be lost very easily. Not only there are days that you work more than 8 hours but also there many cases that you have to work in weekends as well. This overtime work is not compensated in money. Instead, the company offers a system called "comp-days," which essentially amounts to additional leave days. These comp-days can be requested by your manager as a form of compensation for the extra hours worked. However even if your manager requests them (many times they don't) the amount of days you will get is not even close on the actual amount of extra work you did. 4. **Unrealistic Project Plans:** The Project Management is a joke. Project plans often appear to be overly ambitious and unrealistic, which can place a lot of pressure on the teams. This unrealistic approach may happens because of the company's need to outperform competitors, sometimes at the expense of employee well-being. As it was mentioned earlier, the overtime work is not compensated fairly, so tight project timelines rely on the expectation that employees will willingly commit extra hours to prevent any potential client dissatisfaction or embarrassment for the company. This is a not serious approach for a company that exists for almost 20 years. 5. **Technical Skill Development:** Veltio offers limited opportunities for developing core technical skills that are widely recognized in the industry. The company relies on two platforms - one from Oracle, which isn't utilized extensively across projects, and an in-house platform, the development of which is outsourced to another company. As a result, employees may not have the chance to engage with the development of this platform, which could have been an interesting experience. It's important to note that Veltio is primarily an IT consulting company. If you are more interested in working with well-known and widely-used technologies in the tech industry, you may find that the company's specialization doesn't align perfectly with your career goals. This is not necessarily a disadvantage, it's just something that you should keep in mind if you are planning to join the company. 6. **Career Growth Limitations:** Personal growth within the company may reaches a ceiling or experience a significant slowdown after a few years. This is an important factor to weigh if you are seeking continuous professional development and advancement opportunities. 7. **Financial Stability and Job Security:** Veltio faces occasional financial difficulties. In times like this the company may reaches a point where lay-offs should be done (one of them recently was done recently). It's important to emphasize that these decisions are not personal and are related just with financial problems. But it is surely is a factor that someone should consider before joining because you may find yourself in an unstable environment.
Pros
Spacious office and facilities, friendly environment, nice people
Cons
Interns were left neglected most of the time without any tasks to do, therefore most of the internship was wasted without learning much.
