Pros
Interesting work. Fast paced. A lot of good people. I'm a procrastinator. The work environment here helps me stay productive. I'd be slow to recommend this company to anybody early in their career. But it works for me. You need to be able to stand up for your self, your immediate peers and know what is and is not acceptable behaviour. There are good teams to work for. Some senior managers achieve the results required with a fair hand. Working under one of them is fine.
Cons
Company culture actively rewards bullying. A senior manager in my reporting chain was awarded a "Culture Award" for his work delivering an important project. From his reports perspective "his work" involved bullyin, belittling and micromanaging his indirect reports. (He probably does the same to his managers as well.) When i fas first interviewing at Vectra there was mention in Glassdoor of this bullying. The external recruiter i was dealing with put my mind at ease that it was a solved problem. And in fairness, i think it probably was. But this is a company culture problem that is always going to re-emerge, not through malice, but through upper management being overly ambitious and that pressure filtering down wards through inexperienced managers. One of the biggest perks of working there used to be the "Wellness days". 8 fridays a year where the company gets the day off. Despite research that work reduction is beneficial, as of 1st Jan 2024, this has been cut to 4 days. I doubt it will be a thing next year. The rationale seems to be that many in the company were too busy to take the time off. This is typical of Vectra upper management, taking the short term win over the long term benefits. We regularly see this attitude in engineering where the opinions of experienced engineers are overruled by marketing decisions, usually resulting in much wasted time further down the line.
