Pros

None, bar the new vehicles but they’re Alexander Dennis so are already falling to bits.

Cons

Lots. Directors haven’t a clue what they’re doing - stating they have no money for some things so cutting corners but then go and buy other larger more long standing bus companies. One of the directors poses around in his Maserati and asks staff to clean it for him which speaks volumes. They rely on lucrative rail replacement work which will be operated without the use of a tacho card because everything is masqueraded as ‘emergency rail rep’ so the owners seem to think that allows them to not adhere to driving hours. Luckily however one of the directors got a telling off by the traffic commissioners for this and was forced to hire in an external company to monitor driving hours so hopefully that will improve. The TC also raised issues with maintenance too, make of that’s what you will. You’ll robably be paid late as is customary and if the payday falls on a Saturday and it’s a bank holiday weekend then you’ll be paid the following Tuesday because they refuse to practise the industry norm of being paid early. It’s likely you’ll be asked to swap onto different work when arriving for your shift, or you’ll be made spare as there isn’t a vehicle for you. There’s never enough vehicles for the work they take on so runs are always stood.

Pros

There are talented people there and some useful experience to gain, but be prepared to check whether the team culture and support systems match what you need.

Cons

During my time at Vectare, I noticed a few recurring patterns I want to share so others can make an informed choice. The office layout and management style often felt highly surveilled. Leadership came across distant rather than supportive. I observed several new hires leave within their first year. Leadership is closely knit, many senior staff have known each other for years, and decision-making tends to stay within that circle. For new hires, this can translate into a lot of “because Joe Bloggs said so” rather than open dialogue. I was informed that there is a gossip circle among them, spanning outside the office itself. It’s not about anyone being malicious, rather, comfort and familiarity often seemed to be valued more than growth or inclusion. If what you’re seeking is long-term belonging, mentorship, and a sense of warmth, I advise you to reconsider. Also, the benefits are a joke.
