Pros

The district you work for you will enjoy and the people there.

Cons

Its hard to choose where to start. The team I worked with started off with good management but a constant turnover staff. The company had a hard time keeping anyone on board. After several years working there I would poke and prod at moving up in the company. The little advancements were just enough to make you feel important but never significant. The overwhelming expectation will collapse down on you. Just when you think you are at a good position too you will realize how much the company just truly doesn't care about you. Combine your overwhelming expectations with being underpaid and throw that together with management who treats each employee with zero respect, you have this company.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. It is unclear whether you worked at VARtek full-time for less than a year or over several years as later written in the the cons. Ultimately, your manager and you are working on Individual Development Plans to determine what VARtek can help you with your professional development funds and the plan you will follow to advance your career through education, on the job training, and the earning of certifications. It seems that we can as a company improve the career path system and set better expectations regarding advancement and timelines. Your feedback will help us accomplish this. You stated that you had little advancements but that they were not significant enough to meet your needs. We absolutely care and focus on career growth but it appears that we can improve in our expectation alignment. Thank you, again, for your feedback. It will help us continue to improve in these areas. We wish you the best in your future endeavors and hope that what you did learn while with the company, that you leave us stronger than you came.

Pros

Working in schools is great. Kids and teachers are a lovely bunch, mostly. Good co-workers. Team lunches. Learning experience. Summers are laid back. Downtime, encouraged to study. Overall, a great entry level opportunity.

Cons

Pay is low. Lack of tier 3 support from home office. The owner/CEO has generally opted out of managing this company long ago. The current running president has little technical aptitude. Granted she seems good at HR and Finance and talking "shop" with teachers/admins. However this is at its core a tech company and i think having a proper CTO would do the world good.

Pros

Great starter IT job Opportunity to learn a lot of different things in IT You wear alot of "hats" which keeps the job interesting Working for schools is very rewarding Summers provide a nice change of pace vs the school year Good amount of vacation available The team and school district were wonderful

Cons

Pay is less than desirable compared to similar IT roles Upper leadership doesn't seem to know what they're doing (as echoed by many other reviews) Turn-over can be high due to pay and lack of upward growth opportunity.
