Pros

Good work life balance Subsidised lunches Hybrid working Good location with good parking

Cons

No career growth - the work is repetitive and the type of skills you could teach someone straight out of high school. If you stay here too long you really risk becoming unemployable to other companies as you don’t develop anything unique or in demand in my opinion. Use VAT IT as a stepping stone. Certainly not a forever home (unless you prefer simple, repetitive work and are not interested in professional growth). If you’re someone who aspires to be a subject matter specialist, rise the ranks in corporate, want to be the person businesses call for insight, you won’t be any of that here. Poor salary compensation and poor bonuses: salaries are incredibly low. The few people with high salaries are people who came from companies that already paid them on the higher side. No medical aid. No pension. No income protection. Zero benefits. Performance reviews are one sided. They’re not a two way discussion, it’s simply a meeting for them to let you know how they think you performed and what bonus they decided to give you based on their assessment. It’s not an opportunity to highlight any wins you had that are not visible to your seniors. You can mention them but your bonus was already decided before that meeting started so rather don’t waste your time. Seems to be a preference to laterally hire senior people. If you’re not a senior person, good luck ever becoming one. It doesn’t appear that they train up for that. All in all the company sort of works like a factory. You have your role, your tasks that are usually the same each day, rinse and repeat, there’s no path of ascension. I’d recommend VAT IT if you’re young and looking for work experience or if you’re tired of corporate and just want something chilled and laid back. But if you’re someone with big professional goals and are an experienced professional, your time may be wasted. Racial and cultural diversity isn’t the best. If working at a place that properly reflects our rainbow nation is important to you, then you’re out of luck here.
