Pros

It took me way to long as a professional driver to have a chance to join a union. The union has helped me out in dealing with management and even the threat of involving the union has made management remove unwarranted complaints from my record. The collective bargaining agreement that we have makes it so there is no favoritism in when and how much the raises are given. From day one you are given 5 vacation days and each year you will accrue over 50hours a year of personal time. They offer a bonus system that can make you get additional bonus gift cards three times a year (2022). Everything is done on seniority so once again there is no favoritism and the longer you stay at the company the better choices you have on routes that you can choose. Once you have been hired on at UTA it is pretty easy to change job roles if you are qualified for the open position. Most if not all the positions are internal applications before they are offered out to the general public.

Cons

When you are first hired on and for the first few years, as a bus operator, you are put on what is called the 'extra board' this is the system where your daily schedule is different every day, only your days off are the same. You are also only guaranteed 35 hours a week but also can be forced to do overtime as long as it is on your working days. This job is good enough that it takes a long time to move up in operator seniority as once people are hired on they rarely leave until they are ready to retire. This is less true in the SLC area because that garage has so many employees the amount of people retiring is greater than the other two garages.

Pros

Good benefits and lots of advancement opportunities. The people are great to work with as well. I enjoy the goals and objectives of the company to provide public transit.

Cons

The same as most jobs, but nothing worth mentioning specifically.

Pros

Management is mostly fair. Standard bus driving job. Good training with free CDL class B. Paid during training.

Cons

Salt Lake COL is expensive. Pay does not match cost of living.
