Overall UTA is good. Within HR, not so good. - Human Resources Utah Transit Authority Employee Review

Pros

Don’t believe what you read in the news- UTA as a whole is a good organization. Most employees care about what they do and work hard. Most executives and managers are honest and try to do the right thing. From what I have seen most are committed to serving the public and try to do so the best they can in their individual roles. I have always been proud to work for UTA. Benefits at UTA are excellent- onsite health clinic, onsite gym, pension and 457 retirement plans. Participation in wellness program helps keep costs down.

Cons

UTA as a whole is a good place to work. Each department has their own unique culture- some are great, others are not. Management sets the tone in each, and unfortunately there are a few bad managers who lack competence, integrity, and accountability, among other things. My rating is of the People office (formerly HR) only, not UTA as a whole. Opportunities to do new things are almost non-existent. With the exception of the HR Business Partners all of the HR roles are very pigeon-holed, leading to burnout and no growth. Unless you come to UTA already having other HR skills/experience, you likely will not be able to do anything else, unless you play the game and suck up to the new management team. Most employees leave because of their managers, not jobs. So what is the reason so many employees have recently left, are leaving, or want to leave but haven’t yet, the People/HR office in droves? Poor management, no real leadership, endless talking without any action, incompetence, arrogance... Again, employees leave managers, not jobs/companies.

Pros

Good benefits and lots of advancement opportunities. The people are great to work with as well. I enjoy the goals and objectives of the company to provide public transit.

Cons

The same as most jobs, but nothing worth mentioning specifically.

Pros

Management is mostly fair. Standard bus driving job. Good training with free CDL class B. Paid during training.

Cons

Salt Lake COL is expensive. Pay does not match cost of living.
