Pros
Laval offers an amazing package of benefits and a great career progression. Salary is competitive. Coupled with the benefits of life in Québec, this means the university will offer advantages that are considerably above most universities in the US and the UK (even in the Russel Group). Conference travel money, funding opportunities, sabbaticals, and a very healthy and supportive environment. I've taught at 5+ universities in North America and Europe, and this is by far the best place to work I've had.
Cons
For an R1, Laval could be a bit more open to the international academic market. Possibly because it's a francophone university, the pool of students will be reduced, which means fewer people are willing (or able) to come to the university as they don't speak French.
