Pros

They are willing to educate/train. Most of the employees are hard-working, conscientious, helpful and informative. They are willing to flex your schedule to accommodate you having another job, children, etc.

Cons

The only person that is heard is the right-hand man, who is responsible for, besides the low pay, the high turnover rate (almost 24 people in 9 months). Owner doesn't listen to anyone else. The right-hand man's way is apparently the only way and he doesn't have to abide by UPC policies and procedures like every one else - he is exempt. He has his fingers in every pie possible in the company and the company suffers for it. Majority of manufacturing equipment is at least 20 years old, the ones in the CNC dept. break down frequently. Computers are hodgepodge throughout. You might have a 10 year old computer, some are 20 years old, trying to run the latest software, but it results in a lot of crashes and some of the tools in the software won't work because the computer is too old. They tend not to follow industry standards regarding protocols and supplies for equipment and/or processes. Half the time the equipment isn’t fixed promptly, so you have to limp along, if possible, until there are a plethora of problems. Even then, not everything will get fixed. They don’t listen to the engineers or maintenance regarding how to solve the problems. So the band-aid approach is taken. 2nd shift gets the shaft a lot on hours. You're lucky to get 40 hours a week regularly. There are many organizational issues regarding proper labeling, filing, organization, proper training, unhappy employees, and following protocols. Negotiate your pay and raises before you take the job and get it IN WRITING!!! You could be the best employee, get things done ahead of time, know the software, meet all protocols and policies and you won't get a raise, they'd rather let you leave than keep a valuable employee. You don't get any PTO until after a year, which is really odd for a company that has this many employees - it should be 60-90 days at the outside. If you are scheduled for 10 hour shifts, you don't get any paid breaks, and you only get 8 hours holiday pay. Holiday pay only kicks in after 90 days.

We always say "you write your own ticket at UPC" as we are willing to train, develop, and promote within. We even recently promoted a long term employee into the role of Plant Manager! We also pride ourselves on our willingness to work with employees to develop a schedule that both supports business need and an employee's home life while also offering a full 40 hour a week role. Our management team cares a lot about our team and spends time weekly, if not daily, talking about how to develop our culture, grow our business, and provide the right tools to our team so they can get their jobs done safely and efficiently. We are always evolving and finding ways to improve our processes for the better, which unfortunately can't happen overnight, but is a journey that most business are continually on. We also strive to provide a competitive total rewards package which is reviewed to see what additions or upgrades should be added each year to ensure our team feels valued.
