Pros

Uncommon Schools is a really positive, warm environment. People work hard and have tons of joy in their collaboration!

Cons

We are growing quickly, so the work load is busy! This isn't really a con, just something for new folks to be aware of :)

Pros

-wonderful, thoughtful coworkers who share the same values in education as you -school building itself is very nice compared to other schools I've worked at

Cons

-admin breathes down your neck and you receive accountability emails or a stern talking to for even being one minute late to work or meetings as well as any missed deadlines -there are a LOT of admin tasks you have to do that don't give you the energy to actually focus on teaching -their accountability measures to ensure you meet tasks and deadlines seem dehumanizing as an adult -you are asked to cover other absent teachers and staff often. it gets worse over the school year as people quit or are fired. I have had to cover almost every day some weeks (sometimes more than once on a given day) for other staff and lose prep or lunch time. -although there are respectful, kind students, other students can be very disrespectful at times and it can be very frustrating -a lot of favoritism at play among admin and staff. the same people are recognized for their effort while others are not -I have seen teachers and leadership use questionable and at times demeaning ways to manage student behavior -work hours on-site are very long, almost 9 hours daily not including commute. this is not including work you may have to take home. -SPED dept does not get the recognition from the charter school network in the ways that it should. we are often thought of last and test scores are not commended in the same way as other courses are...
