8yIn 2015, Umoja established a Diversity Team made up of staff from across the organization to discuss and take action on diversity, equity and inclusion at Umoja. Since being formed, this team has written a diversity and inclusion statement for the organization; trained Umoja staff on topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and begun the process of revising our hiring process to ensure it is as equitable and as inclusive as possible. Currently, Umoja is working with the National Equity Project to formalize a strategy to ensure organizational Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion which will be included as a key strategy in our next organizational strategic plan.
The Diversity Team is looking at retention data and annual staff satisfaction survey data and dedicating significant time and thought to what types of structures, practices, and training need to take place at Umoja to increase the recruitment and retention of a racially diverse staff.
