Pros

TRS Pension. Not the worst place to spend a few years. It can be an especially good place for young people to learn early career skills, but you are likely to have to move out to move up.

Cons

The departments are siloed and department managers have basically unchecked power, which is not so great if they don’t like you. This also leads to dysfunction where departments spend more time playing CYA and finger pointing games than actually advancing the org’s mission. If you are staff you will always be third banana next to students and faculty.

Pros

Great benefits and medical insurance coverage, very collaborative atmosphere with faculty inside and outside UTHealth, cutting-edge research.

Cons

No more job security for early career investigators due to recent budget constraints.
