Pros
- Top level management has been in place for 20+ years, stability at the top ensures no abrupt shifts in direction. - Company is not afraid of hiring/promoting young leaders or promoting from within quickly vs. "paying your dues" or tenure-based leadership. - Management at the local, regional & national level have management, development & strategy as a core job function, rather than additional responsibilities tacked on to book-level work. This creates a much more corporate structure, coherent & consistent decision making and leadership who are engaged with developing staff instead of focused on their individual books of business. - Growth has been consistently positive, and there has been a shift recently away from the acquisition-heavy history to achieve scale and a focus on creating a more consistent culture & "one company" feel. - Stability in strategy and culture fostered by ownership structure. - Very professional atmosphere, more of a mature company than a small mom & pop. - Competitive compensation and wealth-building opportunities via equity. - Clearly articulated career development & upward mobility opportunities. Chances for management, leadership & strategic positions at the local, regional and national level. - Investments in "grow your own" at the sales and support staff positions, with dedicated mentors & coaching available (or required).
Cons
- Very "corporate" feel can feel constricting to those who prefer to do things the way they think are best. - There can be a large focus on data collection & analysis, which can feel like additional "check the boxes" work, created by the balancing act required to do your day job and feed actionable intel back to senior management to aid in future decision making. Without the context behind the need for it, it can feel tedious to staff who aren't exposed to the "why".
