Pros

Great place to work when you're looking for a stable job. It is a recession proof! When Tech and Health care industries and even local government does RIFs, the agency and the upper management tries to accommodate workers, there federal employment transition programs that priorities when RIF and veteran friendly. This agency empowers employees for upskilling training but you need to have to take it and it can't be handed to you. There's also a lot of retiring age group, so there's a lot of potential promotion there.

Cons

There's a slight nepotism. So whenever you're looking for fast promotion, you need to be outspoken and facetime is valued. If you're introvert, you hardly get noticed. However if you want to be left alone that is fine too. Bachelor and veteran preferred. Must have shipyard management experience or vocations.

Pros

The administrator is great, and most of the employees are amazing people who really want to make a difference. The leaders in most areas of the organization are doing their best and trying to improve things.

Cons

I wouldn't wish the sealift group of senior leaders (DH and MSH) on my worst enemy. People are dropping like flies (retiring to escape, resigning, lateral moves, etc.) because the two treat folks like gum on the bottom of their shoes. They are nasty, narcissistic, just awful human beings who treat people like servants. They are not going anywhere. I can't imagine any other organization would take them. I've not seen anything like this anywhere else. They lack self-awareness (like most narcissists), not to mention zero business acumen. Concepts that are basic to most executives are above their heads. Don't expect any accountability; there is a strong sense of cronyism. If you bring up opportunities for improvement, you will only get scapegoating, retaliation, and belittling. Everything is someone else's fault or responsibility. If you are comfortable in an abusive environment, these are the people for you. Otherwise, there are plenty of other places to work- even within MARAD. However, if Sealift is what you are offered and you are accustomed to a respectful workplace..run!
