Pros
Good opportunity for advancement, good mentorship (if you find the right person), good opportunity for training at senior levels. Once reputation is established, promotion and growth potential are much higher.
Cons
Assumption of rampant nepotism, good chance for advancement but can take time. Too much emphasis on experience vice education. Often times people are promoted based solely on experience without regard to performance, education or abilities. Sometimes fails to ensure the same standards are applied across the board for hiring/promotions.
