Pros

The Air Force is a great place to work as a nurse. Factors include: Great physician/nurse professional working relationships, because of equality of rank between the physicians and M.D. Great benefits, free healthcare, dental, vision, as well as housing pay. Pay is better than as a civilian because of rank in military afforded to nurses. Opportunities to travel and live overseas and experience things that you would never see or do as a civilian. You can retire after 20 years!

Cons

Currently, the Nurse corps is overly competitive in regards to achieving higher rank if you are clinically minded (rather than administratively i.e., management). If you enjoy being clinical and want to stay out of the office you are penalized for not advancing your career. Remains a bit interesting for a guy as you reach middle management because most of the senior nursing staff remain women. There is no prejudice, just interesting games women play that men don't.

Pros

Laid back environment get your work done and you can coast.

Cons

Appraisals are off of the buddy system more often than not i.e. if you went to the same college as your supervisor you’ll likely get good scores if not good luck.
