Pros

Good retirement plan (if you started early enough), health insurance, disability insurance, nice campus and town (Davis is great! Wish my salary would allow me to live here), sometimes you get to work with smart people, employment stability, hybrid work schedule.

Cons

Very low salary, no career progression, insulting pay raises (if any, mostly only 1-2% COLA adjustments every few years), no bonuses or perks, nobody to learn from (a very siloed culture), bureaucracy, little knowledge transfer, not on the forefront of technological advances, any changes take forever to materialize, boring projects (CRUD galore). As a staff employee, you are at the bottom of the barrel (the priorities at UCD are: Students -> Faculty -> Staff and nobody is even trying to hide it). Be prepared for the diversity and inclusion agenda being brazenly pushed at you from all angles. And don't you dare have a different opinion about it - UCD values diversity of opinions as long as these opinions align with theirs. Even though UCD is an educational organization, staff training is almost non-existent and if there is, you have to plan your own training. Nobody will help you build a training program that would suit your position/interests/capabilities and improve you career prospects. If you are ambitious and would like to grow professionally, UCD is not the right place for you. If you still decide to start working here, make sure you negotiate salary at the beginning of your employment, because you are going to be stuck at this level for many, many years.
