Pros
Great hours, it's research so a lot depends on your PI. If you can consistently get results from your experiments and keep your PI happy, then it's a low-stress job.
Cons
If your PI is bad, then Godspeed. You need to consistently produce results, or else you're out of a job. Sometimes the projects you get go nowhere, and you have to start over from scratch. There's not a lot of room for job advancement without an advanced degree
