Pros

Generous compensation, generous 401K match, generous annual bonus, flexible remote work, and generous PTO.

Cons

If you are not a manager or above, any opinion or expertise you have will be flatly ignored. The only freedom you have here is to do exactly what you are told by management. Your skills and expertise that you were hired for matter nothing after you join the org. Cronyism is rampant. No one gets promoted here. They only hire managerial level positions and above from the outside. Too many managers and zero freedom to exercise your expertise. They love to lie and tell you how "our people are out best asset." If this were even remotely true, they would listen to the ideas of the people that do the work on how best to get something done rather than the falsely utopian views from managers and directors who routinely tell C-suite exactly what they want to hear. I've never worked at an organization before where so many people are so clueless about how things really work. Zero documentation on far too many systems and administrators have no clue how unhealthy their systems truly are. Management halfheartedly brings in initiatives to try to help, but they have no clue about what those initiatives really mean or are meant to do and they simply become another catchphrase they use to feel good and pretend they are doing something to make things better. Nearly everyone does the absolute minimum to get by and have zero interest in helping anyone else. I have never been so regularly and directly insulted by so many managers in my life. This place is truly the poster child for toxic work culture.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Your experience at CSS is upsetting and disappointing, to say the least, as it does not reflect the company I want us to be. I assure you, I mean every word when I say our people are our greatest asset. It is unacceptable to me that you do not see that commitment demonstrated throughout our organization and that you don’t feel seen and heard. Change doesn’t happen overnight, but your feedback clarifies we must do more to empower our people and provide a workplace where everyone’s voice is heard and appreciated. While your review provides powerful input, I would like to hear more from you directly about your experience and your ideas for how we can do better. Please email me at your convenience and know that our conservation will be completely confidential. I’m working every day to improve how we operate and how we treat each other at CSS, but I need to hear from people like you to ensure we make the right changes and decisions. I look forward to your email. Tony Renzi, CEO, CSS

Pros

If you like to switch around onto different teams, they love that and will support horizontal movement with the same pay. Lots of employee engagement opportunities even though it is remote.

Cons

Too much change going on with the FHFA getting too involved. Threatened to bring employees back to the office, then stayed remote again. People got laid off, and instead of hiring more people they just rotate people horizontally instead of promoting people vertically. The amount of projects and work keeps increasing but there is not enough staff to support it, ends up becoming a toxic environment of overworking. No pay boost either, just arbitrary work rewards to appreciate you.
