Pros

State benefits including health insurance, pension, 401 (k), paid sick leave and paid vacation. There is plenty of room to advance, to take on new challenges, and to further one's formal education.

Cons

IT functions were outsourced in 2012, which makes getting and keeping modern technologies almost impossible. Too many chefs stirring the pot.

Pros

Good health insurance, vacation and sick leave! No mandatory overtime

Cons

Hired remote before Covid and this agency ended all telework even though other state agencies kept it! Doing the work of 3 people but pay for 1 …building outdated (except for HQ in Austin), lack of modern software but PeopleSoft gets the job done, High mandatory pension deductions right at 9.5% big hit to paycheck! Getting paid once a month big adjustment. Ending telework really limits their talent pool around the state of Texas now must live in Austin if you want access to the majority of good jobs.
